If you've visited our cover configurator, you've probably felt overwhelmed: 400 microns, 500 microns, 800 microns, Geobubble, Sol+Guard, EnergyGuard... Why are there so many options if they all look like bubble wrap?

Choosing poorly means the cover will disintegrate in 2 summers due to the sun or won't heat enough. In this guide, we're going to simplify everything so you get it right the first time.

Bubble Shape: Round or Geobubble?

This is the first filter. Forget about "old-school" round bubbles if you're looking for durability.

  • Round Bubble (Standard): This is the budget option. It has a weak point: the bubble corners are thin, and that's where chlorine and UV rays attack, breaking it in no time.
  • GeoBubble™ Technology (Figure 8): This is a patent that revolutionized the market. Having a "peanut" or figure-8 shape, it has no weak corners. Plus, it holds more air inside.
    • Swimhome Verdict: Whenever your budget allows, choose Geobubble. It lasts up to 25% longer than a standard cover.

The Color: What do you want to achieve? (Heat vs Cleanliness)

Something that characterizes a pool thermal cover is its multifunctionality; it can help heat the water or keep it cleaner. According to your interests, it is necessary to choose the ideal model.

On the other hand, this type of thermal covers also works well as a complement to other climate control systems. We invite you to evaluate other products like our professional heaters.

We have the best models of heat pumps for pools; in our stock, we have a wide range of related products.

Below, we show you some of the best functions of having a solar pool cover.

1. Heat your pool water

Color isn't aesthetic, it's pure physics. Depending on the color, the cover will do one thing or another:

A. I want MAXIMUM heat (Sol+Guard Transparent)

If your absolute priority is raising the water temperature as fast as possible.

  • Model: Sol+Guard (500/800 microns).
  • How it works: Being transparent, it lets solar radiation pass through to the bottom of the pool, creating a massive greenhouse effect. It can raise the temperature by up to 10ºC.
  • The downside: Since it lets so much light through, if you don't control chlorine, algae can grow.

B. I want heat and AVOID ALGAE (EnergyGuard Dark/Black)

If you have a second home or don't want to be so attentive to maintenance.

  • Model: EnergyGuard (Dark Grey/Black).
  • How it works: Heats the water by absorbing the sun, but being opaque, it blocks the light algae need for photosynthesis.
  • Result: Warm water and massive savings on chemicals (up to 60% less).

C. The Quality/Price Balance (Standard Blue)

  • Model: Geobubble Blue 400/500 microns.
  • How it works: It's the industry standard. Heats well, prevents evaporation, and has a fair price.

Benefits of our models

  • They are ideal for heating the water in a short time (up to 10ºC), helping you have a much more comfortable and relaxing experience in your pool.
  • They are compatible with a fully efficient reel system, which facilitates the installation process on all types of pools.
  • Made of quality material, totally resistant to outdoor elements like dust or rain, as well as chlorine and salt water.
  • Helps keep your pool clean, being useful in preventing the appearance of algae or even fungal proliferation (Energy Selective Transmission).
  • This product helps increase your pool's functionality, adding value and increasing comfort.

Thickness: 400, 500, or 800 microns?

Microns measure the thickness of the plastic, and therefore the resistance and durability of the material.

  • 400 microns: The standard for small or above-ground pools. Light and cheap.
  • 500 microns (Recommended): The perfect balance. Thick enough to last several years and withstand rubbing, but not so heavy as to be unmanageable.
  • 800 microns (Reinforced): The "beast". Maximum heat retention and extreme durability. Ideal if you have a heat pump or live in very cold areas, although it is heavier to reel in.

The mandatory accessory: The Reel

Don't make the mistake of buying a cover without a reel.

  • A wet cover is heavy and sticks to the water. If you try to remove it by pulling by hand, you will drag it, scrape it against the edge, and end up tearing it in one season.
  • The reel extends the cover's life by years, prevents it from burning in the sun (if you use its protective sheet), and makes uncovering the pool take 30 seconds.
