You have finally selected the spotlights you like the most, white or coloured, you already know what you want your pool to look like during the summer nights, but now you have doubts about how many projectors do I need? Where do I have to place them? In this post we review the most common doubts that our customers have and we will see the best answers to these questions.

where to place the LED spotlights in my pool?

The first rule when selecting where we want to install the lighting for our pool is to think about where we will be looking at the pool from. We must avoid the lamps projecting light directly onto the areas where we usually stay (the house, the porch, the corner where we sit down to have a drink in the evenings...) the reason for this is none other than to avoid annoying glare. It is not pleasant to sit down to have a drink, turn on our pool lights in our favourite colour and realise that we are being dazzled.

Another consideration you should take into account is the existing obstacles in the pool, stairs, islands, or irregular shapes of the pool can cause uncomfortable shadows and over-lit areas. You should therefore bear in mind that in large pools, the ideal is to place the lights on one of the long walls of your pool, while in small pools it may be advisable to install them on the wall at the bottom of the pool. In pools with a Roman end on one of the sides, it would be ideal to place the lighting on the wall opposite the stairs to avoid shadows on the stairs or to place small points of light on the stairs.

It is also important to think about the depth at which the spotlight is installed. It is advisable to install it at about 50 cm from the surface of the water surface, so that you will have easy access to it in case you need to carry out any maintenance or cleaning work.

how many projectors should I place?

When selecting the number of spotlights, at least 4 factors must be taken into account:

  • Shape of the pool.
  • Colour of the liner.
  • Lamp wattage.
  • If it is white LED or RGB.

You should bear in mind that the shape of your pool can determine the number of floodlights you need. It is not always better to select very powerful projectors and few units, in pools with uneven shapes it may be advisable to put 3 less powerful spotlights than 2 very powerful ones. You should also take into account the colour of the lining of your pool, as light colours absorb less light and therefore require less light power for your pool. The power of the lamps is a fundamental factor. It is not the same to install 2 x 9W floodlights as 2 x 35W, the difference can be abysmal, and floodlights of less than 9W are not recommended for underwater lighting. Finally, bear in mind that the total power of any RGB system is only achieved in its white function (red, green and blue LEDs turned on at 100%), while if you only select one colour you will only get 1/3 of the total power. In addition, not all colours spread equally through the water, with red being the colour that is perceived as the dullest. So if we want to have bright and vivid colours in our pool we should only choose products that offer sufficient power.
